In South Africa, the government has left the care of HIV sufferers to families. In response to this negligence, a former nurse created the largest neighbourhood medical assistance network in the country.


It was our first time in South Africa, a country rife with social inequities. We witnessed them first-hand with Veronica, who gave us an incredible lesson in humanity in a local ghetto. This Mother Teresa explained to us the taboos surrounding AIDS and the lack of money that has forced many victims to live with their disease in appalling suffering and indifference.
