Paris: the global capital of the social and solidarity economy
“Les Canaux” is a new site dedicated to Innovation and the Solidarity Economy, initiated by Anne Hidalgo, Antoinette Guhl and Elisa Yavchitz. It’s designed for those working on the economy with a focus on solidarity, collaboration, and environmental responsibility. The inaugural evening on Monday October 10, which was attended by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, provided an occasion for Shamengo and a dozen other start-ups to present their innovations. After some additional work to ready the site, the Canaux, just a short walk from Stalingrad in Paris’s 10th arrondissement, will be able to host international organizations that are working to develop a new economy that protects the planet. Muhammad Yunus has chosen Les Canaux as the base of his activities, convinced that the French capital is a burgeoning hub of development for a more inclusive economy.
